Just when you thought Dr. Pimple Popper couldn’t possibly introduce you to any new pimple varieties (she’s highlighted lipomas, dilated pores of Winer, and hidrocystomas), she shares a video with something brand-new: an epidermoid cyst.
In a new video on her Instagram page, dermatologist Sandra Lee, MD, tackles an epidermoid cyst that’s been bugging her patient for years. “💥Pop💥into your day with an #epidermoidcyst!” she wrote.

JSYK, an epidermoid cyst is essentially a closed sac under the skin filled with dead skin cells, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. The cause of epidermoid cysts is unknown, but they occur when the skin basically folds in on itself. “The cyst then becomes filled with dead skin because as the skin grows, it can’t be shed as it can elsewhere on the body,” per the NLM. Fascinating.
Luckily, when an epidermoid cyst reaches a certain size, it stops growing—as was probably the case with Dr. Pimple Popper’s latest patient.
“Look at our cute little cyst here,” Dr. Pimple Popper says in the video. “There’s usually a little sac around it, so I need to make sure I get all of it out otherwise it could come back.”
She then attempts to excavate it with a pair of forceps. Her patient explains that she’s had the cyst for about three years, though recently, it’s gotten flatter. While it’s a bit difficult to remove, Dr. Pimple Popper ends up successfully removing all that dead skin (as she always does).
I’m actually on the edge of my seat, wondering what type of pimple she’ll introduce the world to next.
