10 Different Hummus Brands Are Being Recalled for Listeria Threats

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, 10 brands are being recalled due to listeria concerns.

Houston-based hummus manufacturer Pita Pal issued a voluntary recall on products dated between May 30, 2019 and June 25, 2019. The FDA reports Listeria monocytogenes were found at the production facility, however there is no evidence the food was contaminated. Additionally, there have been no reported illnesses thus far, but the company is moving forward with the recall on a precautionary basis.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA wrote in the statement: “Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.”

The products have been distributed across the U.S. as well as the United Arab Emirates under various brand names, including:

Labels with a date code of 150 through 176 are included in the recall and should be returned to retailers for a full refund.

Just two weeks ago, select Green Giant, Trader Joe’s, and Signature Farms Fresh Vegetables were pulled from store shelves for the same reason—listeria risk. So shop carefully and clean out your cabinets.
