Type-2 diabetes is a common condition which can trigger symptoms like rapid weight loss and extreme thirst.
It is a condition which causes the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood to increase.
Fortunately, there are a number of ways which could ward of type-2 diabetes symptoms.
In a study of 20 humans with diabetes, one variety of seed called Salba – also known as chia – helped participants control blood glucose.
The seeds were also found to reduce blood pressure and lower C-reactive protein, which is a major marker of heart disease risk.
Chia seeds seem to slow glucose passage into the blood and they fill people up which reduces the appetite.
As well as this, the superfood contains a high level of antioxidants and omega-3.
They are a good source of protein, as well as fibre, which could benefit people with type-2 diabetes.
Alongside eating a healthy diet, it is important to be active in order to lower blood sugar levels.
The NHS says: “You can be active anywhere so long as what you’re doing gets you out of breath.
“This could be fast walking, climbing stairs and doing more strenuous housework or gardening.”
