Atefeh “Atti” Riazi will be leaving her post as chief information officer at Manhattan’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, after being hired for the same role by Hearst.
WHY IT MATTERS
Riazi had joined MSK in February 2020, with the mission of developing an enterprise-wide, strategic information technology plan, and integrating digital resources across the organization.
Over the past three years she has led business realignment and new IT deployments across the health system, managing network infrastructure, applications, system security, integration and analytics to help improve the cancer center’s research, clinical and administrative teams.
Prior to her time at MSK, Riazi logged three decades of expertise tackling other digital transformation jobs at institutions including the United Nations, where she served as chief IT officer and assistant secretary general since 2013.
Before that, she served as CIO at New York City Housing Authority, Ogilvy & Mather, New York City Transit and other organizations.
At Hearst, Riazi will start on Nov. 1 and report to Chief Technology Officer Mahendra Durai, senior vice president and chief technology officer.
“Atti’s leadership, experience and success working across various industries, both in the private and public sectors, will be a great addition to our organization,” he said in a statement.
THE LARGER TREND
Just this past week, Healthcare IT News reported how Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is working with UPMC spinoff Realyze Intelligence to mine real-world patient data in its electronic health records.
MSK’s Innovation Hub will work with Realyze to apply natural language understanding to gain insights from unstructured text notes in EHRs faster and more efficiently – enabling actionable information to help oncologists and other clinicians make more informed and timely treatment decisions.
