Yesterday, Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli were among the 50 people indicted in a college admissions scandal involving bribery and cheating on admission exams in order to secure their children’s admission to elite universities. The actor is a household name thanks to her role on Full House, but who is Lori Loughlin’s daughter Olivia Jade? Here’s what we know about the 19-year-old.
1. She’s currently a student at USC
Olivia enrolled at University of Southern California in fall 2018 and has used her status as a social media influencer to secure paid advertisements — including two September Instagram posts that focused on her new role as a college student.
According to court documents, Loughlin and Mossimo “agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew — thereby facilitating their admission to USC.”
2. She has a massive social media following
Olivia has 1.3 million Instagram followers, 186,000 Twitter followers, and nearly 2 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, which focuses on fashion and beauty. As an influencer, she frequently is paid for her Instagram photos (the paid posts can be identified by the inclusion of the #ad hashtag).
3. She “doesn’t really care about school” (ugh)
In a YouTube video posted to her channel in August, Olivia told her followers, “I don’t really care about school, as you all know.” So why attend a prestigious institution like USC at all?
“I do, like, want the experience of game days [and] partying,” she explained. I’m sure that’s comforting to the deserving student whose spot she took at a highly competitive university with an 18 percent acceptance rate.
4. She said her dad “faked his way through college” (double ugh)
Mossimo Gianulli has frequently been described as a USC alum, but there’s more to his story, too and (spoiler alert!) it’s pretty sketchy. During an interview on the Zach Sang Show last week, Olivia said that “he wasn’t actually, like, ever … enrolled in college.” Say what?
“He, like, faked his way through it and then he started his whole business with tuition money that his parents thought [was] going to college,” she explained. “That’s, like, such a different time. I don’t know if I was supposed to say that, but it’s OK.”
5. Her older sister also attends USC
Isabella Gianulli is also a social media influencer, but as of today her Instagram account has been switched to private. During a 2017 interview on TODAY, she said she planned to study acting. As previously mentioned, court documents state that Loughlin and Gianulli’s bribe also meant Isabella was admitted to USC as crew recruit despite the fact that she doesn’t play the sport.
