Being Australian, Bindi Irwin and her adorable family didn’t spend the last week focused on Thanksgiving. But the extended Irwin clan did have a truly special event to look forward to: Saturday’s Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane, Australia, a commemorative event held annually to honor Bindi’s late father, the animal expert and conservationist. Bindi and her husband, Chandler Powell, prepped for the big evening out with some help from their sweet one-and-a-half year-old daughter, Grace Warrior!

In a series of behind-the-scenes images, Bindi showed her almost five million Instagram followers what her preparation for the night out looked like. “Swipe to see what getting ready for the #SteveIrwinGala looked like for our family,” she wrote. “Such an extraordinary night celebrating Dad’s legacy and raising funds for @wildlifewarriorsworldwide.”
The series of snaps, including Bindi’s family including mom Terri and brother Robert, showed the relatives smiling and having a lovely time on a balcony taking in the view of the beautiful Australian city. Grace Warrior was smiling throughout a number of the photos, showing some new teeth and adorable long eyelashes!

After getting done up and putting on the perfect black party dress, Bindi posed for one more picture: an unusual photo alone. “Rare solo photo taken of this mama,” she captioned the photo on Instagram. “Courtesy of my sweet husband.” Her husband Chandler, proving exactly how sweet he is, was quick to add a flattering comment beside the image. “Absolutely gorgeous,” Chandler wrote.
There are usually two Steve Irwin galas a year, one in Brisbane and one in Los Angeles. According to the organization’s website, “Each year, friends of the Irwin family and Australia Zoo gather to remember what Steve was all about: passion, enthusiasm, family and fun … As the major fundraising events for Steve and Terri’s charity, by supporting these events you’re helping continue the conservation work Steve was so passionate about.”
The evening was definitely full of family — and merriment. Australian kids group The Wiggles performed, and Bindi’s mom Terri danced onstage with them during a performance of their tribute song for Steve Irwin, “Crocodile Hunter.”
It was a big weekend for Irwin family headlines, even beyond the gala. Bindi’s brother Robert, who celebrates his nineteenth birthday this week, is seeing a young woman related to another Australian icon. Robert Irwin is dating Scarlett Buckley, the 19-year-old niece of late Australian actor Heath Ledger, according to news reports.
We love to watch the Irwins (and the Irwin-Powells!) create a legacy that The Crocodile Hunter would be proud of.
