Working as a team! Nick Cannon and his ex-wife, Mariah Carey, coparent their 7-year-old twins after splitting in 2016, and the Wild ‘n Out host told Us Weekly how they make it work.
“We got our egos and this selfish behavior [but] when you put your children first, you understand that it’s all unconditional love. All that other stuff just falls apart,” the former America’s Got Talent host, 38, told Us at the Dame Dash Studios launch on Wednesday, April 3. “I always want what’s best for my children.”
Carey, 49, gave birth to Morocco and Monroe in 2011. Cannon would go on to welcome son Golden with Brittany Bell in February 2017.
When it comes to spending time with the older siblings, the King of the Dancehall author told Us that they fly kites together. “It’s the best,” he said. “It’s the most simple [and] it costs no money. Just watching my kids’ faces light up when they see I can put a kite in the air, watching them hold on — flying a kite is the most amazing thing.”
Cannon’s ultimate goal, though, is to help his children “understand respect and love” by stepping out and helping others. On top of making charitable choices, the California native says Morocco and Monroe are a lot like him and the “We Belong Together” singer.
“They are hams!” he told Us. “They love a camera, they love a microphone. They’re onstage every night with Mariah, and they’ll take over the show if they don’t get their mics [taken] from them.”
In November 2017, Cannon gushed to Us exclusively about how much he is enjoying parenthood so far.
“I love being a father,” he said at the time. “A father is the greatest blessing and greatest responsibility that can ever be bestowed on you. So hopefully I can do it again too.”
