We Stan Crown Actress Emma Corrin’s Coming Out Post

The last few months have been quite the wild journey for Emma Corrin. After landing the role of Princess Diana for the highly acclaimed The Crown on Netflix, the 25-year-old star has gone on to become something of a household name. Despite the startling similarity to a young Princess Diana, it was Corrin’s depth, vulnerability and compassion that shined through in the role and saw her win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama TV Series. Now, the actress is celebrating another win, having come out as queer.

Corrin called herself a “queer bride” as she shared a picture from her new cover shoot for Pop magazine. In the images, taken by photographer Esther Theaker, Corrin stands wearing a wedding dress complete with a veil. Given that Corinn has been famously coy about her dating and love life in the past, having previously told a publication in October when asked about a boyfriend that she’d “Rather navigate this on my own. It’s nicer to feel like I’m taking care of me.” It didn’t take long for fans to express their excitement over the shoot and Corrin’s caption. One person commented, “QUEER? I love my life!”

Another added: “PRINCESS DIANA SAID GAY RIGHTS!!!!”

“Proud of you,” wrote another. “A WIN FOR THE GIRLS!” said another fan. “GO EMMA GO!! EVERYONE CLAPS EVERYONE CHEERS,” wrote another fan, adding several rainbow flag emojis.

As Jeff Ingold, Head of Media at Stonewall, explained, “Coming out in the public eye can be incredibly difficult, so it’s wonderful to see Emma Corrin share her truth with the world. It’s moving to see so much support out there for Emma. Coming out and the labels that people use are always deeply personal decisions. Not all people come out as lesbian, gay, bi or trans. Some choose other labels while others reject all and any labels entirely.”

Ingold added, “Seeing an increasing number of celebrities do this is great, as it means that more young people feel comfortable in being themselves.”

Emma’s next role will come in the form of the queer drama My Policeman, where she will star alongside Harry Styles. Adapted from the 2012 novel by Bethan Roberts, the film is set in the 1950s and sees Emma play Marion, who falls in love with her best friend’s older brother’s pal, Tom (played by Harry Styles). Although they end up marrying, Tom is having a secret love affair with Patric (David Dawson) and eventually Marion’s jealousy spills out and causes trauma for the trio.
