Unless you’re a fancy-pants, first-class jetsetter, flying sucks. You never know who you’ll wind up sitting next to—and more importantly, what their definition of “personal space” might happen to be.
Just imagine your dismay, then, if you, a large dude yourself, shuffled out to your seat on a puddle jumper flight to find someone as massive as 6’3”, 300-plus pound professional strongman Eddie Hall seated next to you. There’s just no way that you’d be able to share the space comfortably, since there’s no way both of your beefy arms could come close to co-existing on the arm rest.
That scenario is exactly what happened when the 2017 World’s Strongest Man and four-time WSM champ Brian Shaw (6’8″) took a flight from London to Scotland on what appears to be a small regional jet. The two girthy guys were seated next to each other by the check-in staff, according to an Instagram post from Hall, which led to a photo straight from your worst travel nightmares.

The check-in ladies sat me and @shawstrength right next to each other on the plane from London to Scotland and no-one on the plane would swap seats…. Would you swap seats with one of us???…. I wouldn’t either 😂 #FuckMyLife Big Love The Beast

The hapless Hall noted that they might have avoided the tight squeeze had anyone elected to switch seats and sit next to them, but he had a good sense of humor about the situation. “Would you swap seats with one of us???…. I wouldn’t either 😂,” he wrote.
It would be pretty cool to sit next to a four-time WSM champ or the man with the heaviest recorded deadlift in history, nicknamed “The Beast”—but once you get on that plane and realize how tiny those chairs are, all ambition goes out the window. It’s every man for himself up in the air.
