If you wanted any indication as to just how well 2021 is panning out to be, consider this: Bryce and Melissa from MAFS are going strong, and J.Lo and A-Rod have officially called it quits on their relationship. If that doesn’t put it in contention with the Great Garbage Fire of 2020, we don’t know what will.
For years, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez stood as the Golden Couple of Hollywood. Both talented in their own right, their coupling seemed to be a union of two souls dedicated to bettering themselves and others, and through their relationship we saw what it meant to be supportive partners, admiring the other in their respective field and only showing joy for their success. But now everything we know about love has been squashed as reports reveal the couple has decided to officially end their relationship.

Issuing a joint statement on The Today Show, the couple announced that they have chosen to part ways after four years together. “We have realised we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the statement read. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.”
The pair added, “We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

While we’re all pretty crushed by this announcement, after weeks of speculation mounting that the couple were on the rocks, it’s hardly surprising. Back in March, reports first surfaced that the pair had split with People reporting hat the couple had opted to call off their engagement. A source told the outlet that “This has been a long time coming.” However as rumours continued to engulf the couple, they instead chose to release a joint statement saying: “We are working through some things.”

A source had explained, “They never officially broke up and talked about it but are still together. They hit a rough patch. But were not broken up. She’s working in the Dominican Republic and he’s in Miami so it’s tough seeing each other especially with quarantining and COVID, but they want to try to stay together.”
The couple got engaged in 2019 after dating for two years, but were forced to put their wedding on hold twice due to the pandemic. Now, it seems there won’t be a wedding at all. Ugh, what even is romance anymore?
