Coronavirus has infected almost five million across the globe, and the UK is one of the hardest-hit countries in the world. One woman has urged the public to take the virus seriously, revealing that she was in hospital, and on oxygen, for four days.
Alisha Standing, 27, developed coronavirus symptoms in the middle of March.
She started to feel incredibly exhausted, and would take half-an-hour power naps to get through the day.
This fatigue lasted an entire week, before she developed the COVID-characteristic cough.
Alisha’s body started to produce significantly more mucus, to the point where she struggled to breathe.
“I’m sorry, this is going to be really graphic, but mucus just feels like it’s constantly overflowing everywhere,” she told Express Health.
“My whole face became swollen. Then there was a point when I just couldn’t move.”
Alisha explained that walking to the toilet, from her bed, required all of her strength.
After a severe “overflow of mucus”, she began to find breathing increasingly difficult.
“There was a point when I was like ‘I can’t breathe’,” she added.
An unusual rash developed all over Alisha’s body, she said.
The rash was made up of small, red spots, and she wondered whether she picked up an allergic reaction.

By this point – around two weeks after the onset of coronavirus symptoms – she had developed a fever, and decided to phone NHS 111.
They confirmed that she was showing signs of the infection, and it wasn’t long before Alisha was in hospital.
Alisha was tested at Kingston Hospital, London, where it was confirmed that she had COVID-19.
She stayed at hospital for three nights, four days, and spent long periods of time receiving oxygen, she said.
The doctors and nurses were incredibly sweet, added Alisha, and she was very thankful for them.

A month later, and she’s feeling much better. She’s back working from home, and was delighted to have gone for her first run since the infection.
But, she urged the public to follow the social-distancing rules, claiming that the infection can strike anyone, anywhere.
“Everyone just tells you that it’s just going to be the flu, and that you’ll get over it,” said Alisha.
“But the people that I met in hospital were all healthy, and they lost their lives.
“I just think it’s sad that some people are accidentally killing other people because they’re not taking it seriously. It does really stress me out.
“When you go through it… it’s scary not being able to breathe.”

Alisha is one of almost 240,000 people in the UK to test positive for the coronavirus.
Around 14 percent of those individuals have lost their lives to the infection.
The government has urged the public to remain at home wherever possible, to limit the spread of the infection.
The current lockdown measures were eased for the first time this week, allowing everyone to exercise outside as much as they want on any given day, as opposed to the one-hour time slot that they were allowed outside previously.
Hundreds of people in the UK are still dying from coronavirus everyday, however.
