Coronavirus has seen Tory MP Nadine Dorris self isolate after she tested positive for the deadly virus. Adamant “she’s done the right thing”, what can you do to prevent the spread of the virus?
As of Tuesday 10th March, Public Health England recorded six deaths because of COVID-19.
Anybody showing symptoms of COVID-19 – cough, fever or shortness of breath – should call the free NHS coronavirus service on 111.
Following a discussion with a healthcare professional over the phone, you may be asked to self isolate.

NHS guidelines for self isolating
This means staying at home. Do not go to work, school or public places.
The use of public transport is prohibited. Any groceries should be dropped outside your home by delivery service people, friends or family.
Do not invite friends and family into your home. Only those who live with you should remain in the home and, even then, staying in separate rooms is advisable.
At present, self-isolation is recommended for 14 days.
The NHS continues that people in self-isolation should stay in a well-ventilated room with a window that can be opened.
It adds to regularly clean the toilets and bathrooms with disinfectant.
If you share a bathroom, set-up a bathroom rota whereby the infected person used the facilities last, before thoroughly cleaning the bathroom themselves.
The use of separate towels is also recommended.
And crockery and utensils need to be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water – although, dishwashers are permissible.
Try to stay away from any household pets but, if unavoidable, wash your hands before and after contact.
I live in shared accommodation – what should I do?
The NHS advises anybody who has COVID-19 and lives in shared accommodation to stay in your room with the door closed, only using communal areas when necessary.
Try to avoid using a shared kitchen while others are using it, and take any meals back to your room to be eaten.

What about work or home care?
Considering the current COVID-19 outbreak, employers need to be sympathetic to the needs of self-isolation.
And working from home may be an option for some people.
If you need a healthcare visit at home during this time, let them know in advance that you’re self isolating, so they can follow their local employer’s guidance.
It’s important to keep your spirits high while self-isolating.
A potentially lonely experience, do carve some time to speak to friends and relatives on the phone and/or social media.
Why not start a fitness regime while at home? There’s lots of YouTube videos available, or workout apps you can download on your tablet or phone – it could be the perfect opportunity to get into better shape.
Indulge in the latest films and TV shows available on TV, and consider taking this time to really treat yourself.
A long, relaxing bath, meditation and creating nutritious meals are all self-care tips you can do while self-isolating.
