Gentle exercise is the best to soothe constipation, as it aids bowel movements but also helps with relaxation – a key element to helping ease the gut health problem.
A gut health guru advised the best types of exercise to help the pain that comes with constipation.
Eve Kalinik is a gut health specialist and author of Happy Gut, Happy Mind: How to Feel Good From Within.
She recently recommended adding a type of seed to your morning oats to help ease constipation.
Now she suggests yoga and walking to soothe the gut.
Eve told Express.co.uk: “Food aside, high amounts of stress can also contribute to altered movement through the gut.
“Try to engage in regular mindful practises to help with this such as yoga, meditation and walking.”

A walk can help with exercise, but having a regular walking plan is even better to ease constipation and long term help the digestive issue.

Other exercises that can help with constipation are:
- Running
- Swimming
- Dancing
- Yoga
Yoga may help to soothe exercise because stretching has been found to help soothe constipation.
Eve has released two books, Be Good To Your Gut, published in 2017, and Happy Gut, Happy Mind, released in August 2020.
She is a registered member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and works as a Gut Health specialist for KÄLLA Probiotics.
Eve also suggested an exercise to soothe bloating.
She again recommended yoga for the gut health issue causing gas to build up in the bowel, resulting in pain.
“Yoga can help with supporting the gut-brain connection,” Eve said.
“This which can in turn help with alleviating digestive symptoms such as bloating.”
Eve also recommended another method to soothe constipation pain.
She said: “Dietary fibre is really the key thing to focus on, in order to support regular movement through the gut.
“Roughly we need around 30g dietary fibre per day, which in real terms equates to something like one piece of fruit, six portions of vegetables, two servings of whole grains and three portions of nuts and seeds.”
