Target, how we love thee. A day spent wandering your aisles and buying things we don’t need is, well, a day well spent! And now, the chain that always has fun surprises in store (see what we did there?), is at it again with a new announcement for devoted shoppers.
As ABC News reports, Target will now offer same-day wine, beer, and hard seltzer pickup and delivery nationwide. We kid you not! As in, you can drive up to Target right now, today, having added your favorite bottle of rosé to your order, and go home knowing your night is looking up! Meanwhile, Shipt is expected to include delivery from 600 stores by the end of the month.
Rick Gomez, chief food and beverage officer, explained the move in a statement, noting, “Our adult beverage category is one of the fastest-growing divisions within our food and beverage business, and we continue to hear from guests how much they love our fast, easy and safe same-day services.”
Why Target added wine to its same-day services
Gomez continued his statement about Target’s decision to add wine and beer to its pickup and delivery offerings, saying, “As we continue to invest in the products and experiences our guests love, making our wine, beer and spirits selection available for pickup and delivery is a natural next step, and we’re proud our team moved so quickly to bring this enhanced service to hundreds of additional stores nationwide.”
As The Dallas Morning News notes, Target has long provided same-day pickup, and delivery via Shipt, but wine, beer, and hard seltzer were excluded. Meanwhile, competitors do allow customers to shop the wine selection for same-day service. For instance, Walmart and Publix have said “yes” to adding a bottle of red or white to your same-day shopping order.
A trial run of the service in a handful of states like Florida and California proved fruitful, with Target noting in an email to the outlet, “Through these pilot programs, we have fulfilled hundreds of thousands of orders and saw an overall increase in adult beverage sales.”
